The IBIA examined several countries through a market analysis and then compared them. The data and market research company H2 Gambling Capital was involved in this analysis. The result is more than interesting and Germany is not doing as well as actually hoped.
According to the study, Great Britain is the winner
Great Britain clearly emerged as the winner. This country was able to achieve 91 out of 100 points. But what does that mean for the players? The players are not only happy that player safety is a top priority in this country. The players can also look forward to a very extensive range of betting sports. Because the licensing was also a point that was assessed by the IBIA.
The UK has unlimited licensing compared to other countries. At the same time , a 99 percent channeling rate could be determined . How does that come about? Possibly because the licenses are not restricted in Great Britain. Thus, there are no providers who are left behind due to an insufficient number of licenses. So if any gambling provider can be licensed, a high level of channeling will automatically occur. In this case, there is no fear that there will be too many illegal games.
Great Britain was only able to get third place in terms of taxation. However, this does not have to interest the players. More importantly, the UK regulator works closely with the IBIA (International Betting Integrity Association). This allows the players to feel even more secure.
Other winners of the study
Malta came in second, and not because many gaming providers are based there. Similar to the UK, Malta has unlimited licensing . This is due, for example, to the limited range that may be offered according to the new German State Treaty on Gambling. That is why Germany has lost some points in the area of regulation. But Germany has also lost some points in the area of taxes.
The planned and ultimately implemented gambling tax has led to criticism and discussion in several places over the past few weeks. The very high tax, together with the limited range, could only increase the number of illegal gaming providers.
The study was based on land-based and online casinos
The study not only included the regulation of the individual countries. Of course, the possible range was used as a basis and taxes and other levies were also included. Last but not least, player safety was examined. A total of ten areas were defined for evaluation.
That is why the IBIA has also examined whether there is sufficient advertising opportunities and whether certain types of betting are being restricted. Of course, sufficient integrity checks should also be carried out by the providers and, if necessary, logs should be created. Although one point has nothing to do with player safety, it has been included as well: royalties.
Not only countries from Europe but from all other continents were examined. A total of 20 gambling markets were examined . Reaching tenth place from this is not bad on the one hand, but not good on the other.
Is there a study on online casinos?
The investigation apparently only related to sports betting. Online casinos with slots and the popular casino games were not examined. However, if you look at the reasons why Germany lost so many points, you will understand that these disadvantages also affect online casinos. First and foremost, the IBIA complained for Germany that the tax was too high . According to experts, this would lead to the payout ratio being corrected downwards for slots.
Of course, a gambling tax that is too high also affects sports betting. However, it is also criticized that the licenses are limited in Germany .
